Jambo mingi from Nairobi!

After two busy weeks in Kenya, I am unbelievably happy to report that the Mugumo Project has successfully hired a primary school teacher for Nairobi Children’s Home!

This past week, Charity, our Director of Operations, Christine, Director of Nairobi Children’s Home, and myself held interviews for the position. We were lucky to interview some very impressive women from all over Nairobi. Round One consisted of a traditional sit-down interview. The most-qualified candidates were invited back the next day for a “practical” where they each taught a short lesson to the kids. It was a tough decision to make as each teacher had her own unique strengths to contribute to NCH. A special thank you to everyone who took the time to interview with us.

In the end, we all agreed on the best person for the job. Beginning September 1st, Judith Randiek will begin teaching full-time at Nairobi Children’s Home. Her passion for children and education is palpable and her eyes light up when she explains why she loves teaching. In her words, she “just loves children so much.” Plain and simple. During the practical, Judi easily captured the children’s attention with her warm and confident demeanor (any former NCH volunteer knows how difficult that can be!) and I have no doubt that the kids will take to her just like we did.

Meet Judi, the newest member of the Mugumo Team!

After grabbing lunch today, we had a mini photoshoot in a city park with our Mugumo swag . . . I think it’s safe to say she fits right in.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped to make this possible. Can’t wait to see what happens on the first day of school!

Jessie
